Second observation

After re-activating the mirror images, the second observation took place yesterday, October 28th. The findings contrast earlier results as almost one third of the observed passers-by started using the installation.

Based on the two first observations the research design will now be adjusted. The final schedule for the experiments in November and December will be published next week.

Experiments started today

The experiments on intrinsic motivation started today with the first experimental set-up. After shutting down the mirror image (video output) passers-by were observed by a hidden observer.

The way people could interact with the installation did not change as can be seen in the following video. The only difference was that there were no mirror images so people could not see themselves on the displays. (A second video: Flexibility) The first impression was quite astonishing as almost none out of more than 300 observed passers-by was using the installation.

The observation was done out of a parking car so people did not notice that they were observed.

 

Experiments on Intrinsic Motivation

In order to search for intrinsic motivation in the use of digital products, a series of experiments will be conducted on the SAP media-façade. The company DEON that realized Magical Mirrors is kindly supporting the experimental research in November and December 2006.
