Complexity III – Flexibility on all screens

Even though the lights inside the SAP building were switched on for 15 minutes during yesterday´s observation the usage behavior seemed to be normal.

Complexity II – Luminary on all screens

During last Sunday’s observation Luminary was playing on all four screens.

Numbers III

To complete the experimental part of this research project a second set of experiments is scheduled for the end of November. The first of these set-ups was tested today (See the video).

After completing the last experiments the additional survey starts in December.

Survey Pretest

In addition to the observation a survey will be conducted in front of the façade. To check the questionnaire and to determine whether further revision is needed a first pretest was carried out today. The questionnaire will be revised in the following days.

Numbers II

See today´s set-up in the following video. Only one screen was switched on. It might seem obvious that less people are using the installation when there are less screens. The observation also revealed a different usage behavior once people started using the installation. More details will be published in the final documentation.

Numbers I

Today, only two out of four screens were activated as can be seen in the following picture. The next set-up Numbers II is planed for tomorrow night.

Complexity I – Progression on all screens

Thanks to a warm November this year, conditions are steady and many people are using the installation. During yesterday´s experiment the behavior of almost 400 passers-by could be observed. The total number of observed individuals now exceeds 2000. In order to analyze the use of the different overlays the effect Progression was played on all screens on the façade. On the picture you can see the two screens in the middle.

A short video of people using this set-up can be seen here.

Reducing choice III

Yesterday, the last experiment on reducing choice was conducted. Only shortly before the observation the rain fortunately stopped so people in front of the façade seem to be acting normally.

Reducing choice II – Aura and Luminary

The 4th observation took place today. Both, Aura and Luminary were played on two screens. Even though it started to drizzle a little bit during the observation the usual average number of people was passing the media-façade. The rain didn´t seem to influence the usage behavior.

A video of today´s set-up can be seen here.

Reducing choice I – Aura on all 4 Mirrors

Today, the effect Aura was played on all displays as can be seen in the short video above. The results of this third observation seem to be confirming the hypothesis.
